This was taken in Little Cottonwood Canyon near SLC, Utah.

As you can the area has received more snow that it has in decades, and the snow effects almost every living thing inhabiting the area.

For us, the commute to work is slowed and is more dangerous, while animals like deer and elk are fighting for their lives trying to find enough food under the enormous amount of snow.

What drew me to this small exposed section of the stream was the texture of the deep snow piled high above. The texture was created by the recent storm along with gravity pulling loose snow down into the stream. Also the shape of the rocks created some nice lines through the image.

Full view helps.

Canon 5D. 24-105mm. HDR. Circ Polar

The texture of snow by *tourofnature Comment by =ericthom57 "There's a beautiful simplicity about the shot. It's framed perfectly. The color highlights of the rocks really pop against the overall white of the photo. And the photographer managed to hold real definition in the snow. All of that...plus this photo will almost make you shiver, no matter where you are." ( Suggested by *ericthom57 and Featured by `Photosbykev )

I see. It has that special, kind of a surreal feeling to it. I really like it. Thanks ;)

Beautiful - I love the warmth of the photo, especially the patch of rich red in the rock. Well composed, feels like it's glowing.
