Storm's Passing

Description

In the backcountry, sunsets like this often come with a price.

This was taken along the shores of the immense, high alpine Seneca Lake in the Windriver Mountain Range. A few hours earlier we had our hand's full with a raging summer storm. It was putting down buckets of rain and hail, so much so that our tents ended up under 3-4" of water, at one point I looked out my rain-fly to see some of our gear floating! The 5 of us were forced to jump out of our tents in the hail, lightning and thunder mayhem and move each tent to higher ground. Nothing like seeing your fire pit you're hoping to warm you up and dry you off submerged under inches of water! The storm had put enough water down that we had to begin digging trenches to try to divert the pooling water away from our camp.

The clouds above the the temporary peaceful lake were the remnants of that storm.
