I took a trip to this area 3 weeks ago and quickly realized the photographic opportunities here. On that trip, trying to save weight in my pack, I opted not to take my tripod as I'd never been there before. I can say in honesty I've never wished for a tripod so bad. 
With redemption in my mind I decided I'd get myself back here to properly capture the scene tripod in hand. I took some time off work and found myself at the beginning of the trail-head again. Its a 10 mile trek into the basin and because its part of Utah's wilderness there are no motorized vehicles allowed, either you hike or ride a horse.
Up in the distance just below and to the left of Red Castle is a large lake loaded with trout. 2 miles above and to the right is another even bigger lake with even bigger fish. I was lucky enough to spend 3 days fishing and taking pictures here. Anyone who enjoys great backpacking and stunning scenery would do well to make a trip to Red Castle. In my opinion its the best hike in the Uinta Mountain Range.
