Aztec Butte Granary by tourofnature Aztec Butte Granary by tourofnature
Although I've been to Canyonland National Park on many occasions I had never been on the Aztec Butte hike. Now one of my favorites in the park, it allows a birds eye view of Islands in the Sky District, but more impressively, one can go back in time and connect with the prehistoric people that once used our recreational area as a place to survive. This photo shows a Anasazi granary.

Aztec Butte, Canyonlands NP, Utah.

Canon 5D. 17-40 L. CPL. HDR.

A little bit of everything in this composition. A small arch, a grainery, and a nice landscape in the background. Very nice.

This is awesome, Wayson. Never seen this place before and I very rarely see an HDR done as naturally as this. Super cool, man.

Good composition and tones. Awesome textures. But. . .yeah, the HDR look is there, and I can't say I'm fond of it. The murky, "white film" look, if you know what I'm getting at.

I agree about the HDR look, its not perfect, but it works well enough for my purposes with this image. I think part of that white look is actually the lighting on that day, this HDR wasn't too far off from the 3 exposures I blended as far a white balance and tones. I wasn't as concerned with the colors as the lack of clarity and sharpness in the canyon below.

Hi, thanks. CPL means Circular polarizer, I use a B&W 77mm CPL. I just upgraded to that not long ago and have been pleased with the results. I got mine from amazon.com

HDR is tastefully done. Thank you for not over-doing it. heh.

GREAT shot! I have yet to make the trip south and I've been in Utah for the majority of my life. Photos like this make me want to go.
